Dear Reader

Not a bookselling site - just a place where I can chat about what I've been reading lately.

Book meme

I'm always a sucker for memes, so here goes:

1. One book that changed your life: The Diary of Anne Frank

2. One book you have read more than once: Just one? Okay, just at random: Teen Idol by Meg Cabot

3. One book you would want on a desert island: I'll never understand those people who choose a novel ("oh, now I'll have time for Anna Karenina!"). Heck with that - I'd take a survival guide.

4. One book that made you laugh: Louise Rennison's Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging.

5. One book you wish you had written: a dissertation, published in book form

6. One book you wish had never been written: That O.J. Simpson one, about how he could have done it. Ugh.

7. One book that made you cry: Rilla of Ingleside, by L.M. Montgomery (the part with the dog)
.
8. One book you are currently reading: I've got We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea by Arthur Ransome out, but I don't think I'll read any more. It pales in comparison to Antonia Forest's Run Away Home (which also features a trip from England to continental Europe in a small boat).

9. One book you have been meaning to read: Foucault's Discipline and Punish

10. One book you wish everyone would read, and why: Oh, that's tough! I think Ender's Game is fabulous, of course, but there are quite a few people who wouldn't like it at all. But for most people, I'd go with Ender's Game.

11. Now tag five people: If you read this, and feel like doing it, I imagine I'll find it.

surprising search results

I just did a keyword search for "typing" in my Library's online catalogue, and here's the first result that came up:
Lois Lenz, Lesbian Secretary
How surreal! I love how it sounds like one of those 50s career romances - which was exactly the point, of course.
