BBYA?
I'm signed up for this Best Books for Young Adults preconference, and I just don't know about these books I'm reading. There are about 80 on my list, all published in the same year, and the little group I'm in will choose the 10 best. I asked the teens around here for feedback about some of the books, and there are books which they think are dull, but that most librarians love. Like, Bud, not Buddy, which I admit I've never felt like reading (but which I'll almost certainly read before mid-June). Or Haruf's dreadfully overwritten Plainsong, which I couldn't manage to read. Of course, I quite enjoy some of the books, and I've had some pleasant surprises. But how can an adult librarian choose books for teens? What does "Best" mean?
