Dear Reader

Not a bookselling site - just a place where I can chat about what I've been reading lately.

Away for the weekend

So yeah, I'm going to a conference this weekend (Thursday to Tuesday). I'm limiting myself to 10 books. That sounds like a lot, but two of them are work-related, and most of them will be children's books (so, quick reads).
Speaking of children's books, I read a really interesting blog yesterday: http://avengingsybil.typepad.com/avengingsybil/ . It's about female sexuality in literature for teens. I've thought about this topic myself, but never in as much detail as avengingsybil's author has. Of course, it's not just a problem in teen literature; adult books and books for older children share the same reluctance to deal with female sexuality realistically.
Last book I read: Bachelorette #1 by Jennifer O'Connell. I saw this one and thought, "oh, *okay*. This'll be terrible, but I'll read the first 50 pages over lunch". As it turned out, I stayed up late to finish it. It's about a married female freelance journalist who gets sent undercover to write about the "hens" on a reality TV show (much like The Bachelor).
